Event Description
The stages of Group development are useful for the group leader in accurately assessing group dynamics and crafting appropriate interventions. Both models have been researched and formed, however Dr. Bruce Tuckman's model, similar to the Boston model (Garland, Jones and Kolodny) has been applied and researched in both clinical and organizational literature.
This represents a cultural bias towards a white male model that is part of the premise of the presentation. The risk of using a model that privileges conflict to create cohesion in a group with marginalized members is that silence or appeasement behavior can be interpreted as an intrapsychic resistance rather than a normal stage of group development. This can be particularly harmful to marginalized members and recreate current cultural and historic harm.
Workshop Format
This six-hour workshop will include a combination of didactic teaching, technique - leader interventions, demo group experience, small group discussion, and whole group integration. This workshop is for all levels of experience.

The participant will be able to:
1. Describe the potential in group development for a Women's Group, a Men's Group, a Mixed Gender Group, a Mixed-Race Group.
